Why this blog ??

You know starting something is always the hardest part, just keep your eyes closed and start it anyway, so here I am writing my first programming blog if I can that. To give a little background about me I am a typical boring software engineer with 9 years of experience.

But along this journey many new technologies came up, most of companies moved stack to cloud and micro services whereas I am still working in a monolithic application. Till this point I never felt like I was lagging anywhere, I never felt the need to learn anything new. Then In 2018 I met Anil (now my husband) who changed my perspectives, he is my super hero.

I have started my journey as software developer in 2012 at Chennai with a reputed firm, I was an ATG ( most of you might not have heard of, this is an ecommerce framework) developer. I was blessed with an onsite opportunity and moved to New York in 2016. So far my life was going good right? yeah that’s what I was also thinking.

  1. Front End – React JS
  2. Back- End – Python (Django)
  3. Infra – AWS

When he was talking about how he has reached US, all hardships he had to go through the extra effort he had to put in to learn new technologies and be different everywhere he had worked to create his space in the company. That was eye opener for me, those thoughts never came to mind. I took my luck and skills for granted, didn’t bother put effort make me better programmer.

But again I didn’t learn anything, we got married in 2019. Things became difficult because we were in long distance marriage, I started looking for jobs with my skillset in Texas, that’s when I realized how hard it is to get a job and how I am still living in cave. But again luck favored me , the same company had an opening for ATG in Texas at last I could be with Anil. Yaay!!

2020 – the year when everything started falling apart. Covid, the pandemic shook the world’s economy and any people were jobless. Thank God!! we both had our jobs, but there was layoff happening in my client’ side which put pressure on us to be able to handle multiple roles. That was the first time I was asked to step out of comfort zone in the past 8 years, but I was scared. With less people and new project, the expectation from us was to learn everything as soon as possible and start working on it. I was having hard time handling pressure, I started thinking about quitting the job. On top of it staying at home for more than year made me worst, I was so anxious and depressed however I couldn’t learn the technology properly. At last I quit my job in April 2021.

That’s the past, but I don’t give up. I am determined to learn and become a full stack developer. This blog is going help me track the progress, after some research I have come up with below technology stack to learn

I have little bit knowledge on AWS but I am completely new to React and Python. Hope I will learn and be more productive .
